THINKING
Why we started Quilla
This is not a dramatic origin story. There was no single moment, no catastrophic client falling-out, no industry epiphany. We started Quilla because we wanted to work for ourselves, we had the experience to do it properly, and we had both seen enough of how the alternative works to know we did not want to be part of it anymore.
That is the honest version. Here is the longer one.
What we kept seeing
Between us we have spent the better part of twenty-five years inside B2B marketing. We have worked agency-side, in-house, and everywhere in between. And across all of it we have watched the same things go wrong with a consistency that starts to feel almost deliberate.
We have inherited accounts in a worse state than the client knew about. We have sat across the table from founders being shown reports that looked healthy and meant nothing. We have watched the senior team that won the pitch quietly disappear once the contract was signed, replaced by someone junior who was briefed on the account in a twenty minute handover. We have been in meetings where a client asked a simple question about their own marketing and the agency in the room could not answer it.
None of these are exceptional stories. They are just what the agency model produces when it is optimised for margin rather than outcomes. We did not need a single breaking point. We had seen enough.
What we built instead
So when we decided to go out on our own we did not try to build a better agency. We built something structurally different.
The two of us do the work. Not a team we manage, not a network we coordinate. Just us, embedded inside a small number of client businesses, close enough to actually understand what is going on and senior enough to do something useful about it.
What surprises people when they start working with us is that the strategic thinking and the actual execution happen in the same conversation. There is no handover between the person who understands the problem and the person doing the work because they are the same people. That sounds obvious. In practice almost nobody does it.
The work before the name
We started working with clients in 2023, quietly, before Quilla had a name or a website. Our first was a B2B international expansion platform called ConnectaVerse. Broken SEO foundations, unclear positioning, marketing that was not converting. Eighteen months later they ranked number one for their most competitive terms, outranking Deloitte and Santander. They were acquired by Helios Global Payments in September 2025.
We are sharing that not to set an expectation but to show what staying close to the work for long enough actually looks like.
Why now
We are launching publicly now because the timing feels right and because the marketing landscape is genuinely shifting in ways that play to what we know. AI is changing how buyers find businesses. The zero-click world is real. The companies that understand this early and act on it will be very hard to displace later. We have spent two years building expertise in AI visibility alongside everything we already do across search, paid media, content, and measurement.
It is a good moment to be doing this work. We are glad to be doing it under our own name.
If you run a B2B business and you are serious about growth, we would like to talk. Not a pitch. Just a conversation with the people who would actually be doing the work.
Talk to us.
